"Scott, thank you! The foot rest now closes more easily than when the chair was new. After over 2 years of wriggling off the chair sideways ( worried about tipping the chair ) and about 6 weeks of not being able to raise the foot rest at all, it is quite a novelty to close the foot rest while seated.
